It looks like there is not gonna be any more activity, so I guess its time to vote. It looks like its going to be on of PiotrM's logo's, no doubt, so if you don't like any of them, you better do something about it. I say vote starts in one week on FIRSTwiki:Logo vote] --Max 21:30, 15 Jul 2004 (EDT)

1. The Temp

Added the registered trademark, as required by FIRST. --SilverStar 18:54, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

This should of course, be banished to obscurity, as it is an abomidable eyesore --Phrontist 17:08, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

You still have the default? Try that for a few days. That's an eyesore. --Astronouth7303 17:29, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Agreed --Phrontist 19:03, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

The actual logo isn't anti-aliased because of the method used. The one above is AAed, but isn't transparent.

2. Patriotic logo

Please let me know what you think. I can put the (c) in if you guys actually like the logo. Ok now the image is on the server... Just got the chance to register my self --Jason 15:16, 4 Jun 2004 (EDT) Please upload the image to FIRSTwiki and please sign comments with --~~~~. Why the US flag? Also, the robot could stand to be a little more clearly visible. --Max 15:59, 3 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I'm sure the non-USA teams would be very pleased with this one ... (sarcasm) --Piotrm 19:03, 3 Jun 2004 (EDT)

It's cool, but yes, the robot could be more visible, same with FIRST. And, the Canadian teams might feel left out. --Ryan 19:31, 3 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Bah! Nationalism is the outgrowth of purely imaginary and arbitrary boundries imposed by The Man. What sense does it make to be proud of living in a certain country, espescially if you aren't an immigrant? But I digress... Lose the flag! That being said, the overall composition of the picture is good, but the opacity on the foreground elements is a lower then Ben Stein's blood pressure in a coma. Where did you get the robot image? Is it origional? Is it in the public domain? --141.156.241.112

Are America's borders somehow imaginary or arbitrary? Why stop at the oceans, afterall, when you can keep on going to ... And all that shared, common history, struggle for freedom, unique government, outgrowth of liberty and preserver of democracy -- all a bunch of hogwash. Bah! and what, pray tell, has lady liberty done for me lately, eh? America be damned! It is purely foolhardy to be proud of some silly and arbitrary piece of land ... leave her to the dogs. When I want to say my mind, or politically dissent ... why, be it in America or China, what's an arbitrary border got to do with it? (Oh, and incidentally, I happen to dislike the image for use as a logo. Patriotism is good, despite the parent post's objection ... but the purpose of a logo is to offer a tool to the reader to visually link that logo with these pages. What does a big American flag provide in terms of unique visual clues? And why is it so prominent, and the link to robotics downplayed? And, as it stands, it is cluttered and confusing. See wikipedia:logotype for some ideas.) --Mrawls 18:18, 4 Jun 2004 (EDT)
I'm a bit confused, were you being sarcastic? --Max 18:48, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)
No, of course not. (Well, okay. Maybe. Yes. Most always...) --Mrawls 19:19, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Yeah I created the robot. It was made in Ulead PhotoImpact 8 Im glad that you like it :)--Jason 18:39, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)

3. Simple Logo

Here is a very similar logo to the temp one. It is slightly better anti-aliased so not as much of an eye sore.--Piotrm 18:56, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

You NEED to have the registered trademark sign. --SilverStar 18:57, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Done --Piotrm 19:09, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Please use an alpha channel to make the background transparent. --Max 18:59, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

This image already had alpha channel. Maybe internet explorer doesn't render it or something like that. Not sure how this would work otherwise unless I assume a background color and have no alpha channel at all to make it look ok in IE. --Piotrm 19:09, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

the wikipedia test site has a logo that has an alpha channel that shows up clearly in IE, are you sure you did the alpha channel correctly? The temp logo also has transparency, though it is a 100% alpha channel (no variable opacity) --Max 19:15, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

As soon as the above suggestions are implemented, this should replace our logo until a final one is decided upon. I'd like to have something that represents the wiki ethos... think in terms of wikipedia's "puzzle globe." --Phrontist 19:02, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Phrontist, its temporary, don't worry about it. We can't waste time making better and better temporary logos or we will never get a permanent one. I can't imagine it is actually that offending to your eyes. --Max 19:06, 1 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Maybe something like a "puzzle FIRST logo"? --Goobergunch 12:08, 3 Jun 2004 (EDT)

4. wikipedia-like puzzle ball logo

revision 1:

Sorry for all those uploads. I must of clicked back a bunch of times. Anyway, here is a simple wikipedia-like logo. --Piotrm 21:13, 4 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Undoutably my favorite so far. Of course this is really the first logo that actually has any original content on it, so I am by no means satisfied yet, but I think it shows some real promise. Two comments:

  • It is a little bit unclear that it is a logo for "FIRSTwiki" as opposed to "Wiki" because the words are very disjointed.
  • On a aesthetic side, the puzzle pieces could be given more depth and harder shadows to make it look more 3D. Essentially, more like WikiPedia's :) --Max 21:18, 4 Jun 2004 (EDT)

revision 2:

png: Image:Wikipedia-like-logo-rev2.png (gif; matte white):Image:Wikipedia-like-logo-rev2.gif

I tried fixing both of these things. See #2 above. --Piotrm 22:03, 4 Jun 2004 (EDT)
I for one like it! I guess, though, I would be hoping for too much to see the puzzle ball evolve into a robot of some sorts? --Mrawls 22:32, 4 Jun 2004 (E

the softer shadows looked better, but the "Wiki" should be in a simmilar font as the "FIRST" so its fits --Jason Livingston 15:55, 5 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I agree about the font, if they are in the same font, you could use the first logo, which is less cluttered. But I think the harder shadows are better. --Max 11:46, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I really really like #2! It's got my vote! --Phrontist 16:21, 5 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Excellent, best of the ones here. Anyway you can incorporate the motto, "Learn, edit, inspire"? --SilverStar 22:03, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)

This is my favorite too. :) --Texan 17:11, 9 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I just uploaded a gif version of #2 for light backgrounds. It doesn't require the new version of wiki to show up nicely. --Piotrm 21:09, 9 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Why gif? There are several reasons not to. The only gifs that should be on here should be animated. --Astronouth7303 19:23, 12 Jun 2004 (EDT)
I think just so you can see it with a transparent background in IE. We can use the png if it gets used because there is a fix that makes png alpha channel's work. (but only for the logo, not in page bodies.) --Max 19:25, 12 Jun 2004 (EDT)

revision 3:

This is merely an attempt to try out some of the suggestions from the previous 2 versions. All into this one try. I don't really like it myself and I would prefer #2. --Piotrm 23:06, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Yeah, the 2nd one does kinda look better. What Jason and I meant about the font was to keep "FIRST" on the sphere, and not have "FIRST" below the sphere, but have the "FIRST" on the sphere, and the "Wiki" below it be the same font. --Max 23:14, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I uploaded the stuff needed to create the puzzle ball to here [1] so anyone can try something different with this puzzle logo. Hope this helps.

Good idea, I'll pass that on to my graphically inclined friends. --Max 23:44, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)
I love the 3rd version of this logo and it is my recomendation. I also have a version of 3ds max from a couple of years back maybe i will give it a go. --Greg needel 20:44, 10 Jun 2004 (EDT)
I love this logo the most, it seems to give class and meaning to FIRST Wiki
This is my pick. Perhaps change "wiki" down below to match the FIRST logo? (The l/e/i part below oughta be alright...besides, a font that thick wouldn't work well for that much text. Unless we're just looking to have a logo that's half as wide as the screen.) --Billfred 13:10, 30 Jun 2004 (EDT)

5. Binary Logo

This is a logo that I just finished making the binary actually spells out USFirst Rocks. In case there are any computer geeks like me out there. The first logo is semi-transparent so "WIKI" can be seen more clearly. The logo really isn't all that transparent though. Tell me what you think--Jason 16:29, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Interesting... Maybe we should have a random one each week!--Astronouth7303 16:35, 8 Jun 2004 (EDT)

6. Seizure Logo

i made this one for fun.. its not too practical for a main page logo. anyway, if you have a seizure, too bad.

btw... this combined robots and puzzle pieces. i know many people had been requesting it. --Jason Livingston 15:57, 5 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Holy crap Jason. lol. You are scarring the chiefdelphi server with that file... --Max 16:27, 5 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Good....god.
I like it. Reminds me of this Unofficial Zeo Comic episode. (If you're wondering, the cat's the main character, the yolk is kinda the antagonist of the thing, and the hippo is a running gag that only shows up to the truly insane.) --Billfred 13:14, 30 Jun 2004 (EDT)
