Line following refers to a robotics problem by which a robot uses sensors to detect and then follow a certain path that is marked with some sort of material, e.g., a reflective tape laid out in a line. In terms of the FIRST Robotics Competition, line following is typically a strategy employed in the autonomous mode segment of a match.
