Non-Engineering Mentor Organization
From FIRSTwiki
Non-Engineering Mentor Organization (NEMO) was co-founded by three mentors located in different parts of the United States who discovered that each was experiencing the same frustrations and joys of mentoring a FIRST robotics program team. After many e-mails and private messages on the Chief Delphi forums website ([1]), we decided to reach out to other mentors like ourselves and thus, NEMO was born.
NEMO will be open to adult mentors including engineers, teachers, parents and college students (who may be the only mentors on their teams) who are involved with all the non-engineering aspects of the FIRST program. It is mainly a support group and information exchange for those non-engineering mentors who help with all the behind-the-scene glue that holds the teams together. NEMO deals with mentor recruitment and retention, travel (hotels, endless meals), parent involvement, fundraising, business plans, team organization, teambuilding, dealing with the FIRST logistics. We hope to seek out all the NEM’s who don’t realize they are a part of a large community. NEMO is open to mentors from all FIRST robotics programs, FRC, FTC, FLL and JFLL.
Our focus: Friendship, Communication, Cooperation, and Professionalism.
• This is a place for fostering friendships between mentors. • This is a place for “professional/adult” discussions of various aspects and “crisis of the moment” of the FIRST Robotics program, considering the “big picture” of the program. • This is a place for mentors to have “chatter” with their peers. • This is a place for providing and requesting support and advice for fellow NEM’s. • This is a place for cooperation between mentors to expand the success of the FIRST experience. • NEMO will host workshops as we are able, and features a private forum on the Chief Delphi forums website. NEMO complies suggestions from our members and publishes white papers on non-technical topics on our website.
